Meet the team
John entered the Financial Services industry back in 1987 and became one of the ‘Men from the Pru’, honing his expertise to specialise in advising teachers and professionals – a more personalised area of financial advice.
In 2001 he moved on from Prudential to become an Independent Financial Adviser, setting up Compass Independent Financial Services Ltd with Mike Eagle, his long-time friend and work colleague. He wanted to be able to provide advice to his clients from across the whole marketplace, rather than the limited products offered by a single company, bank or building society.
“I wanted a professional career and an opportunity to make a difference to someone’s financial wellbeing.”
John’s strength is the personal service he offers his clients which is his key to building long-term relationships, and this is demonstrated by the fact that many of his clients are also friends. He is a member of the Personal Finance Society, and holds a Diploma in Financial Planning and a Certificate in Mortgage Advice.
Living just on the outskirts of Norwich, John is married with three grown-up children, his eldest – Megan – being part of the Compass team. Outside of work John’s personal interests include travelling, motorcycling, dog walking, gardening, DIY, grandparent duties, socialising and car detailing.
What services can John help with?
- Inheritance tax planning

Megan has over 9 years’ industry experience working in a range of different roles within Financial Services. Megan joined Compass in March 2011 in a senior administrative role, progressing to her current role as Director within a short time.
Megan has a Certificate in Mortgage Advice (CF6) and a partial certificate in Financial Planning (CF1, CF2, CF4). She had planned to continue and complete her diploma but got distracted by her desire to grow a family.
“My Dad founded Compass in 2001 – and with him having worked in this industry since I was born, I feel like this is what I know best.”
Megan has 3 young children and is office based Mondays, Tuesday Wednesdays, with her responsibilities wholly business centric: she looks after the running of the business, manages the team, deals with accounts, marketing and social media as well as organising client events alongside directors duties and compliance.
As she has three young children to care for, Megan doesn’t have much time for hobbies, but she does enjoy adult colouring books and doing family activities.
